On this International Day of Charity, Waterdrop Filter wants to share a journey we have been committed to since 2017—working with trusted partners to bring safe drinking water to children in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Hundreds of millions of people around the world still lack access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation, with children being the most vulnerable. Every day, many of them walk for hours just to collect water that is often unsafe, leaving them exposed to disease, missing school, and in the worst cases, losing their lives.
Without clean water, children face not only health risks but also obstacles to education and a brighter future.
Where It All Began
In 2016, Waterdrop Filter's President Philip first came across stories of children falling ill or missing school due to unsafe water.
“I was deeply saddened to see children suffering from waterborne diseases and losing their chance at education. I knew I couldn’t stay indifferent,” he recalls. This sense of responsibility inspired Waterdrop Filter to take meaningful action.
One Purchase, One Day of Water
Water4Smile program , launched by Waterdrop Filter in partnership with The Water Project, creates life-changing water infrastructure across Sub-Saharan Africa. From rainwater harvesting systems to community wells, each water point we establish brings not just clean water, but hope and opportunity to children and their communities.
Our promise is heartfelt and simple: for every Waterdrop Filter's water filtration system sold, we provide at least one day of safe drinking water for children in need.
A Journey of Transformation
What began with individual acts of kindness has grown into something extraordinary. Early efforts included projects like the rainwater catchment tank at Ematsuli Primary School in Kenya, which transformed the lives of over 825 students in the community.
For 15-year-old student Winfred Mudeksia, the change is deeply personal: "Since we started this project last year, I don't have to carry water from home to school every morning."
Over time, we've evolved from sponsoring individual projects to providing comprehensive program-level support. This strategic approach ensures broader, ongoing investment in water infrastructure and community services, helping us work toward the long-term goal of sustainable clean water coverage across the regions we serve.
Real Impact, Real Lives
Thanks to the trust and support of our customers, we have been able to support The Water Project since 2017. Since its founding, The Water Project has achieved remarkable results, including:
● Over 900,000 people now have reliable access to clean water - each representing a story of transformation
● Over 2,600 water points actively monitored and maintained, ensuring lasting impact
● Continuous expansion across communities where every drop matters
● Long-term partnerships that go beyond infrastructure to build lasting relationships
Real Change in Action
At Cheptuli Primary School in Western Kenya, Waterdrop Filter collaborated with The Water Project to build a new borehole well and improve sanitation facilities.
Students no longer need to leave class to fetch water, and teachers have seen significant improvements in the learning environment.
Teacher Esther Shabaya shared: “Previously, students had to bring water from home or leave class to fetch it, which affected learning and posed health risks. Now, with a new water point in place, absenteeism and waterborne diseases will be history. We are so grateful for Waterdrop Filter ’s support—it allows our students to learn in a healthier, safer environment.”
Waterdrop Filter chose to work with The Water Project because they are trusted, responsible, and deliver real results. As our partners put it: “Thank you Waterdrop Filter for your support—your generosity is life-changing!”

“Clean water is a basic human right,” says Philip. This belief drives Waterdrop Filter ’s mission. While providing families with clean, great-tasting water, we also strive to help those who need it most.
