There can be buildups of such minerals inside your water filter if it is not replaced on time. As a result, consuming these in high proportions on a daily basis can lead to kidney stones in your body. While they do not cause death, living with them is very painful and they are hard to get rid of as well.

You should replace a refrigerator water filter every 6 months with average usage. If you have a busy household, you may find the need to replace the filter even more frequently.
If the filter is in the base grille, you can remove it by turning the round filter cover counterclockwise until the handle is vertical to the floor, and then pulling it out. If the filter is inside the fridge itself, push the release button beside it to release and remove the cartridge.
As your water filter begins to wear out, it will become less effective at filtering out the various chemicals, minerals, and microbes that may be present in the water supply. This may soon become apparent to you in the form of changes in the taste and odor of the water coming from your refrigerator.
1)Locate your water filter cover in the lower left corner of the refrigerator base grille.
2)Push down on the eject button and the filter will be released. Pull the filter out.

If you've gone over the recommended time, there could be impurities getting into your water glass that change the flavor. Most models have indicator lights that tell you when it's time to change the filter. If yours doesn't, a good recommendation is changing it twice per year.
It is recommended that the water filter be replaced every 6 months, when the indicator light comes on, or as needed. A clogged or incorrectly installed water filter will reduce the water flow to the ice maker and dispenser, which could result in small ice cubes, low ice production and/or longer dispensing times. If the filter is clogged and you are not able to immediately replace it, leave the filter out so the water system is in bypass mode. With the filter removed, the water system will continue to operate, bypassing the filter, and the clogged filter will not cause slow water dispensing or low ice production. However, in order to have filtered water, you will need to install a new filter.
NOTE: One or two drops of water immediately after dispensing is normal. It may be necessary to hold the container under the dispenser for 2 to 3 seconds after releasing the dispenser button
