Q: How do I reset my filter change indicator light?

A: If your refrigerator has an indicator that tells you when to change the filter, you must reset it when you replace the filter. Every manufacturer has different instructions for resetting the indicator.

  • Samsung® - Press the ice type and child lock buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds. Note: Hold the buttons for only 3 seconds. If you press these 2 buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds, the reset function will cease. Release the buttons and repeat the same step one more time. The water filter indicator light should turn green.
  • GE and Hotpoint® - Press and hold the reset water filter button on the dispenser for 3 seconds.
  • Whirlpool® and KitchenAid® - Press the light switch 5 times within 10 seconds. If the fridge has a filter button, press and hold it for 5-10 seconds.
  • LG® - Press and hold the reset button for 3 seconds.
  • Maytag® and JennAir® - Press and hold the lock and light buttons (lock and water on newer fridges) on the dispenser for about 4 seconds, until the indicator light blinks.
  • Frigidaire® - Press and hold the reset button on the dispenser until the green light flashes (up to 15 seconds).
  • Amana® - Press and hold the dispenser lock and auto light buttons on the dispenser (at the same time) for 4 seconds until the filter status indicator begins to flash. Then release the buttons. On some Amana fridges, you will need to press the dispenser lock and water buttons for 4 seconds until the filter status indicator begins to flash. Then you will release the buttons.
Q: Why is the filtered water gray and cloudy, or why are there black particles in the water?

A: Manufacturing and shipping can cause carbon particles in the media block to knock loose. This means that the first few glasses of water most likely will contain these bits, causing the water to look gray and cloudy. Flush the water several times. It will then be clean and clear.

Q: Do these filters have an expiration date?

A: No. All of the filters we manufacture can sit on your shelf until you need them. We recommend that you keep them in a cool, dark, dry location.

Q: Do I need to lubricate the gaskets on my filter and receiver?

A: No, our filters have a USDA food-grade silicone lubricant that was applied in the factory.

Q: How often do I need to change my refrigerator water filter?

A: You will need to change your refrigerator water filter every six months, as:

  • It produces better-tasting and better-smelling water.
  • It helps remove fine particles and sediment from the water.
  • It prevents unabsorbed water contaminants and newly formed bacteria from being reintroduced into your drinking water.
  • It prevents a decrease in water pressure from the dispenser.
  • Drinking filtered water from your refrigerator can save you over $600 a year over the use of bottled water.
Q: If I use less water, can I change the filter less regularly?

A: Current industry standards dictate that fridge filters should be changed every six months. This is their optimum lifespan. Once the filter has gotten wet during its initial use, it should be changed 6 months thereafter. This is mainly because, over a period of time, carbon begins to harbor bacteria, which may significantly reduce the filtration performance of the fridge filter and potentially enable bacterial contaminants to leach into your water.
