What substances does this filter remove?
  • This GE RPWF water filter adopts superior filtration material. It has been tested to reduce 97% of chlorine, bad taste and odor, 99.6% of lead, 99.99% of cysts, 96.6% of benzene, 98.4% of carbofuran, 96.6% of endrin, etc.
How often should the GE water filter be replaced?
You will need to change your refrigerator water filter every six months or 200 gallons, as:
  • It produces great-tasting and great-smelling water.
  • It helps reduce fine particles and sediment from the water.
  • It prevents unadsorbed water contaminants and newly formed bacteria from being reintroduced into your drinking water.
  • It prevents a decrease in water pressure from the dispenser.
  • Drinking filtered water from your refrigerator can save you over $600 a year as compared to the use of bottled water.
How to install this GE RPWF water filter?
Installation is easy. The detailed steps are as follows:
  • Grasp the old filter, slowly rotate it 90° counterclockwise, and take it off the connector.
  • Align the new filter with the connector and insert the top of it into the filter holder. Slowly rotate it 90° clockwise until it is firmly seated.
  • Run water from the dispenser for 5 minutes to clean the system and prevent sputtering.
Do refrigerator water filters really work?
  • An overused RPWF water filter in your refrigerator, especially one that isn't replaced often enough, lacks the ability to properly remove harmful substances still in the water. Water that passes through old, overused filters can even dislodge some of the trapped pollutants back into your drinking water.
What happens I don't change water filter in my refrigerator?
  • Failing to change RPWF water filter can cause scaling and deposit buildup in the water and ice machine, which can seriously damage your fridge. This buildup tends to slow down the system, causing low flow, and negatively affects the flavor of your water.
Is it really necessary to change RPWF filter every 6 months?
  • Refrigerator filters should be replaced every 6 months. Never leave a filter in place longer than a year. Because water that passes through old, overused filters can even dislodge some of the trapped pollutants back into your drinking water.
Can an old water filter make me sick?
  • Yes, GE RPWF water filters can add bacteria to your water. The moist environment in the pitcher filter is perfect for multiplication, so bacteria can reach higher concentrations. This can make you sick if you continue to use the old filter.
Why is my GE RPWF water filter clogged?
  • Maybe you need a whole house down sediment water filter, it's the first line of defense in the house. the filter blocks impurities such as rust or small objects. The filtered water rarely causes water clogging in the refrigerator.
Do I need to flush the GE water filter before using?
  • Yes. It is highly recommended you flush the filter before using. Water filters are made from advanced coconut carbon block, so there are some carbon fines in the filter. You need to flush firstly to remove those carbon fines to get clean water.

appears OK.

I bought these to provide a low-cost alternative to the chip-equipped GE RPWFE. After completing the hack procedures outlined on the web, the RPWF filter appears to work fine. The water flow rate is quite high, however, which makes me wonder just how much filtering is taking place. The small plastic tabs near the two o-rings do not exactly match those of a RPWFE, but the RPWF appears to still lock in place with no leaks. There's no way I could use "Flavor" to evaluate the suitability of the filter as my raw city water has no taste to begin with. The filter itself is easy to install, but the required hack to make it work is probably not for the faint of heart.
